Spongebob Squarepants is 10 years old this year. To celebrate this we have the priviledge of access to the Nickelodeon archives and have found some truly fantastic Original Production Artwork.

Spongebob and Friends here is a hand-painted cel with matching hand-painted background. This is called a Key Set-Up as there is usually only one background for up to 150 production cels that are placed on top and photographed.

This particular cel is a premium  collector's cel as it has the two main characters prominently placed with the secondary characters all staring into the camera. It is a five layered cel set-up.

SpongeBob SquarePants is a sea sponge who lives in a pineapple under the sea, while his octopus neighbor, Squidward Tentacles, lives in a moai. SpongeBob's other neighbour and best friend is a pink starfish named Patrick Star, who lives under a rock. SpongeBob and Patrick live on either side of Squidward Tentacles, much to Squidward's despair. Squidward is constantly annoyed by SpongeBob and Patrick's antics. Got that? Good!

The process of Animation is often a collaborative effort. The evidence of this can often be seen in the long credits at the end of most animated shorts and films.

Whilst only the most talented and skilled artisans would be employed by the studios, it is often difficult to attribute the corresponding artist to the exact piece of artwork we offer.

We therefore credit this artwork as being created by a Studio Artist, acknowledging their skill and talent bringing joy to collectors around the world.
