Way back in the day, when Peter Jackson was still in short trousers (not that he ever grew out of them), a maverik animator named Ralph Bakshi made the first ever big screen adaptation of Lord of The Rings. For it's time it was an incredibly ambitious project. Shot as a combination of live action and animation blended together using the rotoscope technique pioneered by Disney it was a stunning film.
Sadly however, despite its financial success and rave reviews from fans the second part was never made and this film remains one of cinema's great unfinished projects.
